Richard (Rick) Freridge, Board President
Rick is a retired executive from United Parcel Service and is active with Harbor Habitat for Humanity and his church. He serves on our Executive Committee, as well as the Building/Long Range Planning and Ad/Hoc/Vehicle Committees. He is also one of the volunteer drivers at the Center. Rick is active in the maintenance of the Center and headed up the project of the new parking lot, walking trial and Outdoor Fitness area.
Pauline Fox, Vice President
Pauline is a graduate of Lake Michigan College and worked for the Social Security Administration, Curves (adult exercise program) and as an advertising agent at a local real estate company. Though new to our board she has been compiling our statistics giving her great insight into the workings of our Center.
Bob Hopkins, Treasurer
Bob has an extensive background in accounting and computer science. Bob the Chairman of the Finance Committee and Ad Hoc/By-Laws Update Committees. He volunteers by calling BINGO and enjoys being part of the music program at the Center.
Mary Sundblad, Secretary
Mary worked as a business teacher at Benton Harbor High School for 36 years. She has been Board Secretary for the past six years. She has been a member of various committees; fundraising, personnel, nominating and audit. Mary volunteers at many community organizations including the Soup Kitchen, Caring Circle, Stevensville United Methodist and Berrien County Cancer Services. She feels it is an honor and a privilege to be a contributing, energetic member of the Board.
Celina Bevelhymer, Director
Celina’s education consists of a BA in business administration and has worked at several companies during her career, including GE Capital, Transamerica, Whirlpool Financial and Sears. She is a member of several local organizations and volunteers at many of them including fundraising and Treasurer of the Shoreline Garden Club, as well as projects here at the Senior Center.
Len Casario, Director
Len is a graduate of Ferris State University with a BS in Business Management. He has worked for the following companies during his career; Whirlpool Corporation, Barclays Bank of England and UPS and Federal Express stores. As a volunteer Len has been involved with the Training Room, Pickle Ball Program, and assisted in establishing the Outdoor Fitness Zone and the Walking Trail.
Tim Kragt, Director
Tim was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1973. He is a 1969 graduate of Hope College and earned a law degree, with honors, at Wayne State University. For 35 years, Tim focused his personal injury practice in the areas of worker’s compensation and Social Security Disability claims. Tim earned a peer review rating of “AV” for highest professional ability by Martindale-Hubbell and in 2008 was named a Michigan Super Lawyer.
Tim is a founding member of the Smit & Kragt law firm, Tim’s professional affiliations over the years included the Berrien County Bar Association; State Bar of Michigan; Michigan Association for Justice; Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission; Federal Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was admitted to practice in all Michigan courts, as well as the federal courts in the Western District of Michigan and Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Tim presented numerous seminars for the Institute of Continuing Education as well as labor organizations in the areas of worker’s compensation and Social Security Disability. In 2009, after 35 years of practice, Tim and his partner, Len Smit, merged their law firm with Conybeare Law Office.
Tim is active in civic and community affairs, having served on the board of directors and as president of the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor YMCA and currently on the board of the Saint Joseph/Lincoln Senior Center. He is a life member of the NAACP and has been a member of the St. Joseph Elks Club and the Exchange Club, a Boy Scouts of America Committeeman and Merit Badge Counselor and a youth mentor in the Y Uncle program.
Shirley Miller, Director
With her education and past business experience Shirley has served as Vice President, served on and chaired several committees, and volunteers at the front desk. She also manages the TOPS program at the Center as well as being involved with the Book Club.
Tom Oatman, Director
Tom was employed as a broker dealer, assisting brokers with client portfolios, employed by bank trust departments. assisting clients with portfolios, and preparing fiduciary tax returns. In addition to the board, Tom has been a volunteer AARP tax preparer and helps our members with their Medicare issues.
Rocco Pavese, Director
Rocco is educated in Physical Therapy, he has been leading physical fitness programs at the Center for many years through Lakeland Regional Physical Therapy. Rocco is committed to support the mission of the Center and to continue building the Center’s fitness programs. He will contribute diverse knowledge to our members regarding senior health and fitness.
Jerry Radenbaugh, Director
Jerry has a BS and Master’s degree. He retired from Whirlpool Corporation after 33 years, served three years as a high school teacher and coach, and has spent eight years as Controller of two local organizations. Jerry is and has been a member of several local organizations. Jerry’s expertise in finance, audit and planning will continue to be extremely useful while serving another term on our Board.
Carol Small, Director
Carol has volunteered at the Center since 1996 and served on our Board for over ten years; serving as Board Vice President and Secretary in addition to serving on several committees. With her education Carol has extensive experience in accounting, office management and community service, having worked at Michigan Fruit Canners, Berrien Community Foundation and her husband’s business. Carol was a volunteer at the United Way for 20 years, Board President of Lakeland Credit as well as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee.
