Meet Our Board of Directors
Richard (Rick) Freridge, Board President
Rick is a retired executive from United Parcel Service and is active with Harbor Habitat for Humanity and his church. He serves on our Executive Committee, as well as the Building/Long Range Planning and Ad/Hoc/Vehicle Committees. He is also one of the volunteer drivers at the Center. Rick is active in the maintenance of the Center and headed up the project of the new parking lot, walking trial and Outdoor Fitness area.
Pauline Fox, Director
Pauline is a graduate of Lake Michigan College and worked for the Social Security Administration, Curves (adult exercise program) and as an advertising agent at a local real estate company. Though new to our board she has been compiling our statistics giving her great insight into the workings of our Center.
Bob Hopkins, Vice President
Bob has an extensive background in accounting and computer science. Bob is on the Finance Committee and is Chairman of the Personnel and Ad Hoc/By-Laws Update Committees. He volunteers by calling BINGO and enjoys being part of the music program at the Center.
Mary Sundblad, Secretary
Mary worked as a business teacher at Benton Harbor High School for 36 years. She has been Board Secretary for the past six years. She has been a member of various committees; fundraising, personnel, nominating and audit. Mary volunteers at many community organizations including the Soup Kitchen, Caring Circle, Stevensville United Methodist and Berrien County Cancer Services. She feels it is an honor and a privilege to be a contributing, energetic member of the Board.
Tom Oatman, Director
Tom was employed as a broker dealer, assisting brokers with client portfolios, employed by bank trust departments. assisting clients with portfolios, and preparing fiduciary tax returns. In addition to the board, Tom has been a volunteer AARP tax preparer and helps our members with their Medicare issues.
Dolores Frantz, Director
Dolores retired from Whirlpool Financial/ Whirlpool Corporation after 31 years. She served as Assistant Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Manager. During her 18 years on the Senior Center Board she has chaired the Audit Committee, served on the Finance Committee and been Board Secretary.
Jerry Radenbaugh, Treasurer
Jerry was an accounting manager for Whirlpool for 33 years. He has a Masters from Michigan State and Bachelor of Administration from Western Michigan University in Accounting. He was also an accountant for 2 tool and dye shops between 2001 and 2010.
Louise Boelcke, Director
Louise was co-owner of Boelcke Heating and Cooling and served as their head bookkeeper for 44 years. She also served as Treasurer and President for the Township Fire Department Auxiliary.
Carl Pagel, Director
Carl spent 40 years as a parish pastor and was involved in construction of a chapel, church school, church renovation, and various improvements to facilities and grounds. He worked with congregation leaders, building committees and local governments on these projects and was involved with fund-raising and project management. While on the board Carl has collaborated with the chairman and building committee to plan for the outdoor fitness center and secure funding for it.
Tim Kragt, Director
Tim was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1973. He is a 1969 graduate of Hope College and earned a law degree, with honors, at Wayne State University. For 35 years, Tim focused his personal injury practice in the areas of worker’s compensation and Social Security Disability claims. Tim earned a peer review rating of “AV” for highest professional ability by Martindale-Hubbell and in 2008 was named a Michigan Super Lawyer.
Tim is a founding member of the Smit & Kragt law firm, Tim’s professional affiliations over the years included the Berrien County Bar Association; State Bar of Michigan; Michigan Association for Justice; Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission; Federal Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was admitted to practice in all Michigan courts, as well as the federal courts in the Western District of Michigan and Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Tim presented numerous seminars for the Institute of Continuing Education as well as labor organizations in the areas of worker’s compensation and Social Security Disability. In 2009, after 35 years of practice, Tim and his partner, Len Smit, merged their law firm with Conybeare Law Office.
Tim is active in civic and community affairs, having served on the board of directors and as president of the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor YMCA and currently on the board of the Saint Joseph/Lincoln Senior Center. He is a life member of the NAACP and has been a member of the St. Joseph Elks Club and the Exchange Club, a Boy Scouts of America Committeeman and Merit Badge Counselor and a youth mentor in the Y Uncle program.
Bill Burrows, Director
Bill retired from a career in Sales and Collections. He worked for such companies as Chemical Bank, Plastic Masters and James River Corp. Bill is an active volunteer with the Center, American Legion and The Whitcomb.
